When I was a freshman in college, my friends and I were walking down the crowded main street when a guy walked out of his house and announced that we were all welcome to come in and join his party. Several of us got in line to go inside and check the place out. That’s when a really drunk guy tried to crowd in, but the homeowner stopped him.
“I thought,” the drunk said, “everyone was welcome.”
“Everyone is,” the homeowner responded, “just not you.”
Perhaps when it comes to popularity, many of you may feel like the drunk. Making friends, getting dates, and being popular seem very possible for just about everyone – except you. For whatever reason, you’re a hopeless case, doomed to loneliness, dateless weekends, and constant unpopularity.
Well, perk up! No one is born popular. For some people, popularity seems to come easily; for others it takes some hard work. However, history is filled with people from all walks of life who became popular and famous after overcoming all sorts of problems. Geri Jewell had cerebral palsy (and became a famous comedian). Spud Webb was “short” (but, even at 5′ 7,” won the 1986 NBA slam dunk contest). Michael Phelps was bullied (and is an Olympic legend). Sylvester Stallone lived in a bus stop (but soon after became a famous actor).
So, whether you have fifty friends or none, you can be popular. Whether you go on a date every weekend or have never gotten a second look from your crush, you can be popular. Whether you’re outgoing or shy, you can be popular. No matter your past or present, you can be popular. Thanks to The Popular Teen website, you can be the popular person you’ve always dreamed of. Got it? I hope so!
Right now, we’re just launching our website.
