B) Very Essential
C) Absolutely Essential
D) Extremely Essential
E) None of the Above
Congratulations if you picked “E” because you’re right!
But, if you chose A-D, you’re not alone. Many teens (and adults) feel that in order to be popular, they have to be beautiful. Fortunately, for my less than gorgeous readers, that is a myth.
How do I know? Because I know popular people who aren’t good looking. Even a quick glance through Hollywood celebrities can tell us that. Actors and musicians like Jack Black (pictured), Kelly Clarkson, Adele, John Popper, and many more, have found huge success and popularity despite not looking like photo-shopped supermodels. Now, I’m not putting these people down at all! They are very attractive to millions of people. I’m only reminding you that you don’t have to live up to an impossible image to be liked.
Popularity, as the above examples show, is more about personality and talent than looks. There are many men more handsome than Jack Black; but very few of them are funnier. And, ultimately the people of the world prefer a funny Jack Black to an unfunny, boring male model.
However, good looks help. That’s why a good actor who’s also good looking has an even greater chance of success. So, you still should care about your looks and make an effort to always look your best according to your unique style. Just don’t obsess about it or try to live up to impossible standards.
Because looks still matter, The Popular Teen will be giving out easy, practical tips to improve your looks. Check back frequently for ways to look (and feel) your best.
