Yesterday, we explained in Part One why choosing a great Halloween costume can make you more popular. We also gave you two tips to help pick the perfect costume. Well, today we are giving you the final three tips. Read on! Armed with our advice, Halloween should be a lot less stressful and a lot more exciting.
Tip Three: Store Bought Is Fine; Homemade is Better
I was at a Halloween party a year ago and they had a costume contest. The top prize went to a guy dressed as a giant on stilts. Obviously, his costume was homemade. In fact, all the winners created their outfits on their own in some way.
Store bought costumes can be really cool. But, since they are mass produced, everyone can wear them. That means that when you attend Halloween parties or wear your costume to school, lots of people may have the same outfit. If you make one yourself, you’ll have the creativity factor on your side.
If you create your own costume, make sure you are a creative, artistic person. You don’t want your homemade job looking like total crap!
Tip Four: Use Teamwork
Dressing up for Halloween is fun. It can be even more fun if you and your friends turn it into a social event. Find a fun and unique team costume idea (like going as crayons, the three stooges, etc.). Then, you can plan it, do the shopping, etc. It’ll be a lot more fun than just throwing together something for yourself at the last minute.
This has the added benefit of capitalizing on the popularity of your friends. If they’re more popular than you, being a part of a group with them, especially if the costume is funny and gets everyone attention, should help boost your popularity too.
Tip Five: Avoid Being Creepy
We’ve already talked about being creepy a lot here. It’s because creepiness is a deal- breaker for popularity. Being creepy makes others feel bad about you and even threatened. And, most people don’t want to hang around those who make them feel that way.
Halloween is a time when it’s possible to be extremely creepy because people are expected to be a little darker. But, like with the other days of the year, creepy people cross the line into plain weird.
When dressing up, you can be scary, you can be outrageous, you can be dark and edgy. But, don’t be creepy with your choices. Avoid anything racist, overtly sexual, deviant, or something that is “real life” scary. For example, being an ax-murderer is acceptable for Halloween. Dressing up like a real life serial killer or criminal is creepy.
Halloween is a time to be more popular, not to frighten people so much in real life they never want to be around you!
We hope you enjoyed this two part series. Choose a Halloween costume that will make you look great and be more socially exciting. May your Halloween be safe and popular!
