It’s a sad fact of life, but many teenagers bear a lot more pressure and responsibility than those in the past. Families are less financially stable, college is harder than ever to get into, drugs are more rampant, and pressures of sports and other activities are greater than ever. Teen depression and anxiety are very common.
However, in the midst of the stress, it’s important to take time for yourself. I don’t mean hanging with your boyfriend, sitting around bored, or anything else that you might enjoy but is still emotionally taxing.
Sometimes, you simply need to take some time for yourself. It can involve other people, but it has to be something that you enjoy and that relaxes you. If you do it, it can’t be something that is motivated by a desire to please others or out of obligation.
Maybe you absolutely love fishing. Perhaps it could be just taking a walk in your town. You might just enjoy mindlessly playing video games for a couple hours without being interrupted.
If you have activities or hobbies that relax you and make you happy then it’s absolutely essential that you do them! You must take time for yourself or you might just go crazy from stress.
I know it sounds odd, but sometimes you have to schedule this kind of time. Between work, school, sports, and other responsibilities, it’s easy for you to forget that your time doesn’t necessarily belong to someone else.
So, this week (and into the future), relax and give yourself the time you deserve. Make time for it and follow through. If anyone complains remind them that you need your personal time too.
