Lizzie Marie was six when she decided to sell healthy baked goods at a local farmer’s market to raise money to pay for horseback riding lessons. This endeavor helped her realize that her passion in life was cooking, especially healthy recipes. Her emphasis on healthy items came from her parents weight loss and efforts to make healthier food in their home.
Her dad helped her set up a website to teach others how to cook healthy meals. She also received several monetary grants to teach healthy cooking classes locally. She has worked with the American Heart Association and made many media appearances in the Atlanta area and nationally on the Rachael Ray show.
So, on this “Famous Friday” what can teens learn from Lizzie Marie and her cooking business? A lot!
Lizzie Marie wasn’t sitting on her butt watching TV or playing video games (well maybe she was occasionally). Instead she took initiative for something she wanted (horseback riding lessons) and continued to work hard to promote and build up her goals. Instead of sitting around doing nothing or wasting your time, get out and start pursuing your dreams too!
Be Open Minded
Lizzie Marie was trying to raise money for horse back riding when she found out her passion wasn’t necessarily horses; it was cooking. Sometimes young people have a particular image of they’re dreams: sports star, musician, actor, etc. But, it really might be something totally different or unusual. So, open your mind to the possibilities of what your passion might really be.
You can’t always do everything yourself. As a young person, it’s even more difficult because you likely don’t have the resources or skills that adults may have. Just like Lizzie Marie sought help from her dad and others to develop her website and apply for grants, don’t be afraid to reach out to others to help you achieve your dreams. Yes, this even includes your parents!
So, just like Lizzie Marie, get out there and find a way to make your mark on the world!
