One time I was out to eat with friends and one of them had brought a man I didn’t know. At the end of the meal, he didn’t leave a tip for the waiter. I was a little surprised. Later I talked to my friend and he told me that guy never leaves a tip. It actually made me mad.
It’s because I firmly believe that one of the greatest traits a person can have is generosity. I thought with the Christmas season in full swing, the need for generosity is worth mentioning. Here are three reasons why you should always be generous.
It Will Bring You Abundance
There’s a principle called the law of attraction. It states that you attract what you think about and act like. So, if you are stingy and cheap, then you’re not likely to attract wealth and abundance into your life.
Whether it’s karma or some other principle at work, I find that generous people typically receive generosity from others in return. Even if it’s not some cosmic principle, it could be that people who are willing to help others will be more likely to receive help when they are in need. Be generous and others will be generous back. Be stingy and no one will want to be generous to you.
It Will Make You More Popular
Let’s say you walk into a party. If the host offers you use of the house, from the food to the Xbox to the bathroom, you’ll probably want to get to know that person and think he’s cool. On the other hand, if you walk in and the host tells you to take two pretzels only from the bowl and offers you exactly one cup of coke, you’d probably think you’re dealing with a cheap loser!
Generous people are typically more popular. They’re the life of the party in most cases. And, you don’t have to be rich to be generous. When you go out, you can buy your friend a coffee or a small fries from McDonald’s. What matters isn’t the amount, but the act that makes you popular.
It Is Good For You
Jesus said “it is more blessed to give than receive.” And, recent studies have confirmed that his words are very true. Giving to others in some form is emotionally satisfying, relieves stress, and may have other health benefits as well. So, if you want to feel good, then give back in some fashion. It feels really good to help those who are in serious need.
So, start being generous today. Be generous with strangers, friends, and even family. If your money is limited, then be generous with what little you have. You’ll be happier and more popular.
