What leads to adult success? Is it hard work, a good GPA, or going to the right college? These all can help, but guess what also leads to greater adult success?
Being popular in high school.
Yes, you read that correctly. It seems like the farthest thing from the truth, but being popular in high school makes you richer when you’re an adult! This shocking information comes from a scientific study.
Researchers interviewed adults about the popular people from their high school. Then, they tallied the votes and studied those who were the most liked in their schools. The most popular kids in high school earned the most money, even though it was thirty-five years later! In addition, the top twenty-five percent of the class in terms of popularity earned ten percent more than the bottom twenty-five percent (the unpopular kids).
The study also showed success as adults wasn’t simply about being outgoing, but about being genuinely popular. If you’re popular now, that means you’re setting yourself up for future success in life. If you’re not very popular, then it’s time to change that. While you can become popular at any age, getting a head start in high school gives you an even greater advantage.
If you’re not popular now as a teen, don’t be depressed. Some people developed better social skills as children, in part because of parental influence. However, it’s never too late to learn the same social skills at your age. That’ right: popularity, like any other skill, can be learned, if you approach as something that can be learned.
Until now, there was no website devoted to helping teens become more popular. Sure, there are self-esteem and anti-bullying websites. Also, lots of places give fashion, beauty, sports, and fitness advice. However, we are the only place that is devoted totally and completely to creating popular and successful teens.
