We talk a lot about health and fitness and we’re often asked about good workouts for teenagers. While adults and teens aren’t really that different, teens have different workout options and needs. Also, these are more general workout ideas followed by specific workout examples.
So, with that said, here are four good workouts for teens. Note: consult a doctor before starting any workout plan.
Teens are lucky because sports are such an important part of many schools. If a teen enjoys the competition and the team aspect, then finding a good workout is as easy as joining a team. And, sports, especially at the high school level, are typically great workouts. I have many teen memories of sucking air as a football player. So, if you’re looking for quality workouts for teens, playing a sport at school or through a club is a great option.
Some people absolutely love being outdoors. For these teens, the thought of being inside is awful. If this describes you or teens you know, then find outdoor workouts you can enjoy. A lot of teens think working out means being on a treadmill or in front of a TV. And, they may consider that boring.
A few outdoor workouts for teenagers are tennis, football, running, hiking, and baseball for the summer months. Cross country and downhill skiing are great winter workouts.
Workout With A Friend Or Group
Having someone to workout with is a great way to get more active. Working out with someone beside you has a couple of advantages. First, the other person can challenge you to work harder. If you are running, for example, then running with a friend could help you run farther and more quickly.
Second, workouts with friends can simply be more fun because you have someone to talk to and keep you company. Some good workouts for teens that are good with friends (other than team sports) are running, hiking, golf, and using machines at a gym. Speaking of you can…
Join A Gym
A gym is a great place for teens because it has a lot of variety. So, for someone who gets bored easily, there are many options in one place. Want to swim? Maybe the facility has a pool. Running? There are treadmills. Want a workout class? Many places offer them throughout the day.
The gym has many great workouts for teenagers and they’re all in one place. Most gyms typically have weight and cardio machines (ellipticals, etc). Some will have a pool, a running track, racketball courts, and more. These ensure a variety of quality workouts.

If you’re stuck inside, you may want to try a home workout. This can be boring for outdoor people, but if you like being at home, the workouts can be enjoyable. Beachbody offers some great home products like the Insanity and P90x series.
Make sure you pick something in your fitness range, though, as some home workouts can be tough. Even if you don’t like indoor fitness, these can be great workouts for teens on days when you’re stuck inside due to weather or other reasons.
I hope you found these teen workouts helpful. What matters most is that you get out there and get fit. Being healthy and fit will make you more popular in the long run!
